Vince Staples diskuterar Drakes nya album med Joe Budden: “I did that in 2017”

I ett nytt avsnitt av “Joe Budden Podcast” tillfrågades Vince Staples att uttala sig om Drakes nya album “Honestly, Nevermind”. På den specifika frågan om rapparen och sångarens album markerade ett steg mot avvecklandet av klassisk rap, svarade Staples genom att referera till sitt eget album “Big Fish Theory” från 2017.

“You think Drake putting out a dance album gets us closer to the elimination of rap music as a whole?”, frågade Budden specifikt, varpå Vince Staples svarade:

“I did that in 2017, n***as was on me. That Big Fish Theory, n***as was mad at that, ‘What’s up with this n***a?’”, sa rapparen.

28-åringen fortsatte med att förklara att musik är väldigt “visuell” för honom.

“So when you think about where music is heading, everything is Instagram. Everything looks the same, everything moves the same, everyone dresses the same, everyone talks the same. So the genre shit is gonna have to go out the window eventually. It’s too hard to separate culture because the internet is kinda pushing everything in the same little bubble”, fortsatte Staples.

Och visst har han en poäng. Kort efter Drakes skiva släppte Beyoncé sin nya singel “Break My Soul” som också hade influenser av house- och dansmusik. “Honestly, Nevermind” har fått mixade reaktioner från fans och kollegor. J. Cole har bland annat hyllat skivan som “phenomenal” med Questlove beskrivit den som en “gåva”.
