Inför den tredje säsongen av "Wu-Tang: An American Saga".
Vid det här laget har säkert många sett Hulu-serien “Wu-Tang: An American Saga”, där den ikoniska gruppens resa porträtteras. Genom den har också frågor uppstått kring en potentiell beef mellan Ghostface Killah och Raekwon innan de blev en del av Wu-Tang Clan.
I serien framställs det som att de vid ung ålder var blodsrivaler och att problemen blev så grova att de villa döda varandra. När de sedan lyckades begrava stridsyxan blev de en del av gruppen. Men i ett nytt avsnitt av Gorilla Nems “Outside With Gorilla Nems”-serie adresserar Ghostface teorierna och slår fast att han aldrig haft några problem med sin kollega och vän. Enligt Ghost är just den delen av serien långt ifrån sanningen.
“Me and Rae never had beef. Me and Rae never had no problems. It was just the way them characters got switched around”, menar han.
På frågan om de båda kan skratta åt hur de porträtteras i serien svarar Ghostface:
“I mean, I don’t laugh about that shit because that shit ain’t my story! But you know, Rae, that’s my bro. I love him. We had chemistry, like he taught me a lot of shit, a lot of slang ’cause up where they’re from, they had too much slang.”
2019 pratade RZA om seriens sanningshalt med Newsweek och kallade det då “historical fiction” och att “you can’t take every moment and expound it”. Men sju år tidigare, 2012, sa RZA till Los Angeles Times att Raekwon och Ghostface “started off as enemies in the neighborhood” men senare blev bästa vänner.
Detta har också backats upp av Raekwon som året efter sa till VladTV att det fanns fientlighet mellan de båda.
“If you go to the hood and you go 10 blocks away, n-ggas don’t know you, n-ggas don’t fuck with you, n-ggas will gun you if they feel like you in the way, so we always stayed on our side”, sa han då.
“So when RZA formed this alliance, it was definitely spoken on like, ‘Yo, I don’t really fuck with Ghost, he’s a crook.’ But when RZA was the middle guy, it was almost like he did a [John] Gotti move. He brought all the families to the table, and made n-ggas make amends, due to the fact of how we gon’ move forward and get this money.”
I den första säsongen av Hulu-serien får man se Raekwon och hans vän Power beskjuta Ghostface Killahs familjs lägenhet, vilket eskalerade beefen. I en annan intervju med VladTV i fjol menade Raekwon att det faktiskt hände på riktigt.
Enligt Raekwons historia så ska Ghost haft problem med Raekwons vän på grund av RZA:s bror Divine. Raekwon förklarar att Ghostface försökte hjälpa Divine, vilket ska ha lett till skjutningen.
“It was an eye for an eye situation. He was like, ‘Yo shot at my crib, so…’ That’s what it was. That’s how it played out. I wasn’t around that day to see what was going on. Like I said, we know that Ghost knew RZA and Divine, but we didn’t really know that he knew ’em the way that he knew ’em”, säger Raekwon i intervjun.
“Him and RZA would hang in [Park] Hill, [but RZA would also] be in Stapleton, he would be in New Brighton. He would be all over, so you don’t know everybody RZA know. But these dudes love RZA the way I love RZA. RZA had to come in and dead the shit because he loved both sides.”
Det är lite svårt att veta vad man ska tro, men hur som helst återvänder serien med en tredje säsong den 15 februari 2023. Det är oklart när seriens nya säsong kommer till Disney+ i Sverige, där de första två säsongerna går att se i dagsläget.
