Lizzo tog bland annat hem den åtråvärda titeln Entertainer Of The Year samt Outstanding Music Video/Visual Album. Fifty å sin sida prisades inte för hans musik, men hans regidebut i “Power” belönade honom med en vinst i kategorin Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series. Beyoncé utökade dessutom sitt troféskåp med sex priser, däribland för konsertfilmen “Homecoming” och “The Lion King: The Gift” som gav henne utmärkelser som Outstanding Variety (Series or Special), Outstanding Album och Outstanding Female Artist, bland annat. Även dottern Blue Ivy Carter tog hem pris i kategorin Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration.

Den senare innehar motiveringen “in recognition of a special achievement and distinguished public service”, enligt NAACP.

“And if there’s any thing that I’ve learned is that we can only fix this world together. We can’t do it divided. I cannot emphasize that enough. We can’t let the desensitivity seep in. The, ‘If it’s your problem, then it’s not mine; It’s a woman’s problem; It’s a black people problem; It’s a poor people problem.’ I mean, how many of us in this room have colleagues and partners and friends from other races, sexes, religions? Show of hands. Well, they want to break bread with you, right? They like you? Well, then this is their problem, too. So when we’re marching and protesting and posting about the Michael Brown juniors and Atatiana Jeffersons of the World, tell your friends to pull up”, sa hon bland annat.
