Travis Scott ställer in premiärkonserten av ”Utopia” – skulle ha hållits vid pyramiderna i Giza

Den omtalade premiärspelningen av albumet ”Utopia” vid pyramiderna i Giza har blivit inställd, bekräftar Live Nation.

Utrullningen av ”Utopia” har varit ambitiös. Tidigare i juli meddelade Travis Scott att han skulle premiärspela albumet på en unik scen, framför de historiska egyptiska pyramiderna. Två veckor senare annonserade Houston-rapparen att han i samband med albumet släpper filmen “Circus Maximus”, i samarbete med filmbolaget A24. De senaste dagarna har konserten i Egypten dock svävat i ovisshet. Den 18 juli publicerade tidningen Egypt Independent uppgifter om att den egyptiska organisationen Egyptian General Syndicate for Musical Professions starkt fördömde spelningen och menade att den borde ställas in.

“Since the General Syndicate is part of the fabric of this beloved country it is keen on its stability and refuses to tamper with societal values and Egyptian and Arab customs. Based on research and documented information about strange rituals at Travis’s concerts that are inconsistent with our authentic societal values and traditions, the Board of Directors has decided to cancel the license issued to hold this type of concert that contradicts the cultural identity of the Egyptian people”, skrev organisationen i ett uttalande.

Organisatören Live Nation gick ut och kommenterade uttalandet och försäkrade fans om att konserten skulle gå av stapeln som planerat:

“There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt. Any reports to the contrary are false. We can’t wait to celebrate Utopia with you in Egypt!”

Men en dryg vecka senare verkar förhandlingarna med Live Nation fallit samman och organisatören bekräftar nu att konserten blir inställd.

“We regret to inform you that the UTOPIA show, originally scheduled for July 28th at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, is canceled. Unfortunately, despite our highest efforts, complex production issues meant that the show could not be constructed in the desert. We understand that this news is disappointing and not the outcome any of us desired”, skrev Live Nation i ett nytt uttalande under onsdagen.

Det finns ännu ingen information om premiärspelningen av det efterlängtade ”Utopia”-albumet blir uppskjutet och flyttat till annan ort. ”Utopia” och den tillhörande filmen “Circus Maximus” släpps enligt plan under fredagen 28 juli.
