Den officiella trailern för “Cut Throat City” har nu släppts. Regisserad av Wu-Tang Clans RZA, ser vi bland andra T.I, Terrence Howard, Wesley Snipes, Shameik Moore, Demetrius Ship Jr. och Ethan Hawke i rollerna.
Filmen utspelar sig i New Orleans efter orkanen Katrina och följer fyra barndomsvänner från ett fattigt område. I ett försök att få ihop pengar vänder man sig till en gangster spelad av T.I som hjälper dem att råna ett casino.
I en intervju med HipHopDX från 2018 pratade RZA om filmen drog då likheter med karaktärernas erfarenheter till hans egna under sin uppväxt i Staten Island.
“I felt like what these four guys was going through was similar to what we go through in my neighborhood. Just being men who, based on environment and unfortunate conditions, sometimes is pushed to do acts of desperation.
There’s so many young men in the penal system or in a pine box underneath the ground that could’ve been great artists, or great musicians, or professors, doctors or anything they wanted to be, but situations and conditions and environments forces them to take the wrong path. This story was touching on that, and I wanted to help bring it to the screen and I had the ability to do it and the writer trusted me to play with the draft and turn it into my own thing, and here we are.”
Filmen blir RZAs tredje som regissör, då han debuterade med “The Man With The Iron Fists” 2012. 2017 kom det musikaliska dramat “Love Beats Rhymes” med bland andra Azealia Banks, Common, Jill Scott och Method Man. Efter filmens release gjorde Banks en intervju med The Breakfast Club där hon sa att RZA var en kokaintorsk utan talang för att regissera film.
“Cut Throat City” premiärvisas på SXSW den 14:e mars och får biopremiär i USA den 10:e april. Det finns ännu ingen information om någon svensk biopremiär. Se trailern nedan!
