Ibland kan klimatångesten tränga sig på ordentligt, men det är skönt att veta att åtminstone några rika kändisar verkar vilja bidra till det tveklöst största hotet mot vår existens. Nu har Rihannas stiftelse, Clara Lionel Foundation, lovat att donera 15 miljoner dollar (drygt 138 miljoner svenska kronor) till organisationer som arbetar för klimaträttvisa i USA och Karibien. Detta i samband med Twitter-grundaren Jack Dorseys initiativ #StartSmall.
Grupperna som kommer att tilldelas pengarna är “focused on and led by women, youth, Black, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+ and people of color to accelerate climate justice for those at greatest risk”, enligt ett pressmeddelande som Complex citerar.
“At the Clara Lionel Foundation, much of the work is rooted in the understanding that climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change. This is why CLF prioritizes both climate resilience and climate justice work across the U.S. and Caribbean”, säger Rihanna, som själv föddes på Barbados, i ett uttalande.
Så sent som i november utsågs Rihanna till nationalhjälte i just Barbados, med motiveringen:
“Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty has given service to Barbados which has been exemplified by visionary and pioneering leadership, extraordinary achievement, and the attainment of the highest excellence that is redounded to the honor of Barbados.”
