New York-rapparen Fred The Godson avled i april 2020, i sviterna av covid-19. Nu har en gata i rapparens hemkvarter uppkallats i hans namn. Gatan har fått namnet Frederick “Fred the Godson” Thomas Way, och är belägen på Leggett Avenue och Kelly Street i New York-stadsdelen The Bronx. På plats vid avtäckningen av gatuskylten fanns flera hiphop-profiler, däribland Jim Jones, Sway Calloway och Fat Joe. Den sistnämnde Bronx-ikonen kommenterade Fred The Godsons eftermäle:
“The thing that’s so special about Fred is that he would have made you feel special. So even though he is who he is, every time he sees you, he wants to put a smile on your face. Fred was my friend. Really my brother, really my friend. If I was in New York and had nothing to do, I would call Fred, and we would go down to Heatmakerz studio, and we would just talk for hours.”
I samband med tillkännagivandet av Fred The Godson-gatan i The Bronx släpptes även det postuma albumprojektet “Ascension”. Fred The Godson blev 35 år gammal.
