Den ikoniska NFL-profilen och förgrundsfiguren för EA Sports NFL-spelserie, John Madden, lämnade jordelivet i december 2021. Till årets upplaga av spelet pryder han således omslaget. Aaron McHardy, Executive Producer of Madden NFL Gameplay, säger i ett pressmeddelande:

Årets upplaga av spelet kommer med helt nya FieldSENSE™ Gameplay System – en ny grund för konsekvent, ultrarealistiskt spelande – endast tillgängligt på PlayStation 5 och Xbox Series X/S.
Det nya spelet “Madden NFL 23” släpps 19 augusti 2022 till PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC via EA-appen för Windows, Origin™, Steam® och Epic Games Store.
