Noah “40” Shebib efterlyser stöd för Palestina: “This is what colonialism looks like”

OVO-producenten mest känd som 40 är en av flera stora namn inom musikbranschen som de senaste dagarna uttryckt sitt stöd för Palestina i samband med de skoningslösa bombningar som nu sker från israeliskt håll.

Häromdagen kom rapporter om att libanesiska milisgruppen Hizbollah förstört israeliska övervakningskameror längs deras gemensamma landsgräns. Noah “40” Shebib, som delvis har rötter från just Libanon, tar nu en tydlig ställning i kriget som startade i början av oktober.

“I live in Canada. One of the worlds most brutally violent colonial regimes. Still in active genocides against indigenous peoples. It’s hard to speak as I sit here benefiting from colonial violence to the highest degree”, börjar han ett inlägg.

“Believing in both the human rights of Palestinians and the right and need of a Jewish state has meant I have always had friends on both sides. And beyond the physical war, seeing them be pushed into extremism by such acts of violence is distressing.”

Han tillägger sedan:

“This is what colonialism looks like. It’s what it’s always looked like. When will this stop? When will life win over death? The world did not come and stand with the Jewish people during the holocaust. Now we watch as the world does not come and stand with Palestine. I’m ashamed and devastated by it all.”

I inlägget finns också en bild på en t-shirt med texten: “WE ALL KNOW TOO WELL THAT OUR FREEDOM IS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT PALESTINES FREEDOM.”

Det är inte första gången som 40 kommenterar Israel/Palestina-konflikten. 2021 uppmanade han sina följare att se en Al Jazeera-dokumentär om hur Israel kom till, vilket började med en massutfasning av drygt 750 000 araber från Palestina. En händelse som palestinier kallar “Al-Nakba”, arabiska för “Katastrofen”.

So what I’ll say is that “Al-Nakba: The Palestinian catastrophe” is an incredible documentary on YouTube that can help everyone understand the Palestinian struggle. I will also say that I recognize I’m making this comment from a country that is a colonial state. This is a world issue”, skrev producenten då.

Bland de stora namn som ännu inte kommenterat situationen återfinns bland andra Drake och DJ Khaled, som DJ Vlad kritiserade för deras tystnad nyligen.
