Natten till tisdag gick BET Awards 2025 av stapeln i Los Angeles. Samma stad som stora protester mot migrationsmyndigheten ICE hållits de senaste dagarna, med en våldsam upptrappning efter att Donald Trump valt att kalla in nationalgardet mot de civila demonstranterna.
Detta valde Doechii att adressera vid sitt tacktal efter att ha vunnit Best Female Hip Hop Artist.
“I do wanna address what’s happening right now outside of the building. There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military force to stop a protest. And I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?”, började hon till stora applåder från publiken.
Hon fortsatte sedan:
“People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it’s my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people. For Black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza, we all deserve to live in hope and not in fear and I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate and we protest against it.”
Under morgonen kom nyheten att Kaliforniens guvernör Gavin Newsom, som varit starkt kritisk mot Trumps beslut att sätta in nationalgardet, nu stämt presidenten för beslutet att skicka 2000 militärer till Los Angeles.
Stämningen riktas mot Donald Trump och försvarsminister Pete Hegseth.
“One of the cornerstones of our Nation and our democracy is that our people are governed by civil, not military, rule”, skriver Newsom i ett inlägg på X där han offentliggör stämningen.

Kort efter detta har Trump nu beslutat att skicka ytterligare 2000 nationalgardister och 700 marinkårssoldater till staden för att stoppa demonstranter.
