"This isn’t disruption. It’s a cash-in."
I förra veckan gick superproducenten Timbaland ut med nyheten att han startat det nya underhållningsföretaget Stage Zero, som inom kort kommer att lansera den nya första AI-artisten någonsin. TaTa, som artisten kallas, kommer dessutom att introducera den nya genren “artificial pop”, eller A-pop.
Efter massiv kritik av flera välrenommerade kollegor fick han dagen efter gå ut och adressera beslutet.
“I know I’m trolling but let’s have real conversation. I love my independent artists. This doesn’t mean I’m not working with real artists anymore”, skrev han bland annat och försäkrade att han inte använt andra artister för att lära upp TaTa.
Bland kritikerna återfinns veteraner som Guru, som återigen valt att säga ifrån. Respektfullt men tydligt kommenterade han på inlägget:
“I swear I love you bro but this ain’t it. Do you not realize what is going on in the world. Your voice is powerful and way too important to do anything like this. I have students who worship you. They are going to say ‘if Tim can do it, then it is ok for me to do it.’ These are the times, right here, that history is defined.. Human expression can never be reduced to this!!! This is way bigger than music!!! I say this in all love.”
Brittiska dj:n Shy FX gick hårdare åt Timbaland och skrev bland annat:
“You call it trolling, but the moves you are making are not jokes. They are choices, and they come at the cost of real artists who are already fighting to be seen and heard.”
“You showed your colours when you attempted to make a song using Biggie’s AI generated voice. You made it even clearer by partnering with Suno, whose founder has been very vocal about wanting to replace musicians, not support them. And now this? This isn’t disruption. It’s a cash-in.”
