"They wanted me to take the record off."
I förra veckan kom till slut beskedet att Clipse efterlängtade comebackalbum “Let God Sort Em Out” släpps i juli. Nu bekräftas även att Kendrick Lamar och Drakes beef var anledningen till att skivan dröjt och att samarbetet “Chans & Whips” kom med ett pris.
I en ny omslagsintervju med GQ berättar Pusha T att Universal Music Group – som äger Def Jam och arbetar med både pgLang och Drakes OVO Sound – ville censurera Kendricks vers på grund av beefen med Drake. Något som de förstås vägrade göra, vilket ledde till att Def Jam släppte både Clipse och Pusha T som soloartist.
“They wanted me to ask Kendrick to censor his verse, which of course I was never doing. And then they wanted me to take the record off. And so, after a month of not doing it, Steve Gawley, the lawyer over there was like, ‘We’ll, just drop the Clipse’”, säger Pusha i intervjun.
Han tillade sedan att samma sak hände hans osläppta verser på Rick Ross-låten “Maybach Music VI” och Pop Smokes postuma spår “Paranoia”, i kölvattnet av disslåten “The Story of Adidon” – som bekant också riktad mot Drake.
Pusha fortsätter med att kritisera sin nemesis, som pekar på hans omtalade stämning mot UMG som en anledning till censur-debaclet.
“If [Drake’s] adamant to have a lawsuit, it’s only because he knows all the things that they did to suppress everything that was happening around ‘Adidon’ and the verses and the records and things that were happening back then. I don’t rate him no more. The suing thing is bigger than some rap sh–. I just don’t rate you. Damn, it’s like it just kind of cheapens the art of it once we gotta have real questions about suing and litigation. Like, what? For this?”
Han menar dock att han inte har någon avsikt att ge sig in i beefen igen, bara om han “kände för det”.
“I think after everything that had been done, I don’t think there was ever anything subliminal to be said ever again in life. Not only just musically, like bro, I actually was in Canada. I actually had a show and made it home. So, I can’t pay attention to none of that. I did the dance for real, not to come back and tiptoe around anything.”
Vad gäller Kendrick Lamars vers så har LeBron James återigen valt sida i vad som också utvecklats till en spricka mellan honom och Drake. Detta då han citerat rader från den kommande låten.
