Pop Smoke gör skådespelardebut i biofilm – släpps 2021

Ett av de sista projekten som Pop Smoke hann färdigställa innan hans död i februari var Eddie Huangs debutfilm “Boogie”. Nu står det klart att filmen kommer ut den 5:e mars 2021 via Focus Features, vilket också markerar drill-pionjärens skådespelardebut. Filmen kommer dessutom innehålla osläppt musik av rapparen.

“Boogie” har skrivits och regisserats av Huang – som är känd för sin memoar “Fresh Off The Boat” som senare blev en serie på ABC – och följer den unga basketstjärnan Alfred “Boogie” Chin, spelad av Taylor Takahashi, från Queens, New York. Pop Smoke spelar Boogies rival Monk.

“A lot of actors just don’t have the depth of emotion and experiences, but because of what Pop’s gone through, he has a tremendous well to draw from”, sa Huang till New York Times nyligen, där han också berättade om inspelningen.

“Kids were coming on the bridge to watch us shoot the scenes. We would play Pop’s record. All our actors, the extras, the kids on the bridge watching us shoot scenes, everyone was doing the Woo dance. It was pretty special.”
