Stormzy tackade nej till vers från Jay-Z

Är aktuell med nya albumet "Heavy Is The Head" och Sverige-spelning!

Den Sverige-aktuella UK-rapparen Stormzy satt nyligen ner med “The Jonathan Ross Show” för en intervju när Jay-Z dök upp som ett samtalsämne. I intervjun avslöjar han att han nyligen tackade nej till en vers från just Jay-Z, en person som han beskrivit som hans “number one hero inspiration”. Något överraskande handlade det dock inte om någon av hans släppta singlar eller kommande låtar från albumet “Heavy Is The Head”, utan Ed Sheeran-samarbetet “Take Me Back To London”.

“Before that I loved ‘Take Me Back To London’ because I thought it was just going to be me and Ed. Then Ed was like, ‘Jay is getting on it.’ We got into the studio and we were writing for this song and then he just stops the music and he said, ‘Tell me about London, I need some inspiration’”, berättar Stormzy.

Väl i studion ska man då ha haft en givande pratstund där dom pratade om allt från svart kultur, musik och deras respektive resor inom industrin.

“It was the greatest conversation of my life. At the end he’s smiling, we were probably talking for an hour and he goes, ‘So what do you think of the song?’ I was like, ‘I love this song but you being on the song changes everything. If you didn’t ask me this, I would have just written my verse and we would have done it and I would have never questioned it, but now that you’ve asked me, no.’”

“I was like, ‘I know how it goes, Mr Z. You are the most brilliant, busy man and I will probably never get this opportunity ever again but hand on my heart, I don’t think this is the right song for us. I don’t know why I’m saying this to you but this is not the song.’”

Han berättar att det, vilket man kan förstå, var ett väldigt tufft beslut.

“I felt proper bad because I was like, ‘You’re saying no to JAY-Z!’. JAY-Z was super proud and super shocked and taken aback by the fact that this kid told him.”

Han menar dock att Jay-Z förstod vad han menade och låten har som bekant gått väldigt bra ändå. Låten, som är från Ed Sheerans senate album “No. 6 Collaborations”, har bland annat legat etta i Storbritannien. De båda teamade också upp på Stormzys senaste singel “Own It” från hans kommande album “Heavy Is The Head” som släpps den 13:e december. Se videon nedan!

I slutet av förra veckan kom också nyheten att Stormzy återvänder till Sverige för en spelning i Stockholm den 26:e februari 2020 på Annexet.
