När Apple 2014 köpte upp Beats By Dre för miljardbelopp följde skivbolagsveteranen Jimmy Iovine med till sin nya ägare för att arbeta vidare. I somras kunde han även synas i dokumentären “The Defiant Ones” som porträtterar honom själv och Dr. Dre vars affärsimperium firat stora framgångar. I samband med att dokumentären i dagarna kommer ut i olika fysiska format så hölls en middag där publikationen Billboard närvarade. I samband med detta ska Iovine ha diskuterat sin nuvarande roll på Apple Music och andra streamingtjänster och sade:

“The streaming services have a bad situation, there’s no margins, they’re not making any money. Amazon sells Prime; Apple sells telephones and iPads; Spotify, they’re going to have to figure out a way to get that audience to buy something else.”

Han utvecklade specifikt kritiken mot svenska streamingjätten Spotify med orden:

“It’s fine with the big companies, Amazon, Apple, Google… Of course, it’s a small piece of their business, very cool, but Spotify is the only standalone, right? So they have to figure out a way to show the road to making this a real business.”

Tidigare i år läckte uppgifter internt från Spotify där företagets förlust uppges ha stigit till någonstans mellan 2,9 miljarder och 3,9 miljarder under 2016. Detta innebar en kraftig ökning av förlusten jämfört med 2015, då bolaget gick back med motsvarande 1,8 miljarder kronor.

På tisdagen presenterade Spotify de samlade sifforna för streamingtjänstens mest spelade musik under 2017. Läs mer här!
