Under söndagskvällen gick Oscarsgalan 2018 av stapeln och det blev en historisk kväll för “Get Out”-regissören Jordan Peele. I och med att filmen vann i kategorin Bästa manus blev han nämligen första svarta personen att vinna just den kategorin. Debutanten har redan firat stora framgångar med sin första långfilm som utöver att vara nominerad i fyra kategorier på Oscars även blev förra årets mest lönsamma film genom att dra in över $250 miljoner på en $4,5 miljoners budget.
Common och Andra Day uppträdde även på galan med nominerade låten “Stand Up For Something”, till filmen “Marshall” där vi ser Chadwick Boseman i huvudrollen. Kvällens stora vinnare blev Guillermo del Toros “Shape Of Water”. Svenske Ruben Östlund gick lottlös från galan efter nominering till “Bästa Utländska Film” med “The Square”. Basketstjärnan Kobe Bryant prisades även med Oscar för kortfilmen “Dear Basketball…”
